With the Xamarin acquisition, Microsoft has democratized cross-platform mobile development for .NET developers. At Build 2016, they was announced that Xamarin Platform is now part of the Visual Studio family – being completely free with most versions of Visual Studio, including the Community Edition. And the underlying Mono framework is now open source with the .NET Foundation , including some previously-proprietary, mobile-specific improvements to the Mono runtime. Let the good times begin!
