1) KaOS 2016.04
KaOS is a KDE optimized Linux distribution that is now being updated, with the new Plasma 5.6.2 desktop environment. Additionally the distro benefits from the new Calamares installer framework which has been updated to version 2.2.1.
Other features include:
A new and very complete download manager has replaced kget. Fatrat will be part of KaOS default installs from now on. Another change is the move to Cantata as the default Music Manager, Clementine’s focus is still on developing for Qt 4 plus has security issues which new Sqlite tried to avoid.
2) TurnKey Linux 14.1
For those that want purpose built, application specific Linux appliances, there are few choices better than TurnKey Linux. With the new 14.1 update, which follows the 14.0 by 7 months, the big technical element is a rebase to Debian 8.4
TurnKey updates include TKLBAM, confconsole, inithooks (including significant improvements to the fence – relevant to headless builds only) and deck (TKLDev only). All appliances have more strict password complexity requirements now too. They require minimum 8 characters with at least one of each: uppercase, lowercase and number(s).
3) pfSense 2.3
pfSense is a FreeBSD based operating system that is optimized for router and usage as a firewall. The latest update has an improved GUI that is intended to make the system easier to manage and configure.
The most significant changes in this release are a rewrite of the webGUI utilizing Bootstrap, and the underlying system, including the base system and kernel, being converted entirely to FreeBSD pkg. The pkg conversion enables us to update pieces of the system individually going forward, rather than the monolithic updates of the past. The webGUI rewrite brings a new responsive look and feel to pfSense requiring a minimum of resizing or scrolling on a wide range of devices from desktop to mobile phones.
