HPE Rolls Out Machine Learning as a Service on Microsoft Azure

After two years in beta, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Haven OnDemand machine learning platform is finally open for business. The platform is designed to help enterprises build cognitive computing solutions, text analysis, speech recognition, image analysis, indexing and search APIs. HPE aims to make machine learning available to companies through a self-service delivery model.

Although a commercial version of Haven OnDemand will now be available, companies will still have access to the “freemium” service it has been offering throughout its beta testing stage that allows users to develop and test APIs for free. Hewlett-Packard said it has already registered more than 12,000 developers for the Haven OnDemand community.

Sum Greater Than the Parts

Fernando Lucini, vice president of HPE Haven OnDemand, said that the company has developed more than 60 different machine learning APIs during the beta stage. “One API does not an application make,” Lucini wrote in a blog post announcing the platform’s commercial debut.

He said that the goal of the company is to create a comprehensive collection of APIs covering different aspects of machine learning to provide users with as broad a set of tools as possible for dealing with highly nuanced, contextualizeddata HPE Rolls Out Machine Learning as a Service on Microsoft Azure . “Many different techniques need to be layered to get the maximum value,” he said.

As a result, Haven OnDemand’s collection of machine learning APIs can power a comprehensive set of use cases. “Haven OnDemand can crawl, index and analyze data from file systems and the Web,” Lucini said. “It can analyze and extract insights from text, audio, video, and image files, detect faces orfraud HPE Rolls Out Machine Learning as a Service on Microsoft Azure , and be used to build predictive models and recommendation engines.”

In addition, developers can use Haven OnDemand to create data transformation and enrichment workflows by combining multiple APIs together. The APIs are designed to complement each other and work together in multiple combinations to provide different machine learning capabilities.

Machine Learning for Any Application

Among the capabilities Haven OnDemand offers is advanced text analysis, which extracts the key meaning from natural language by focusing on concepts, entities, and sentiments within the text sources. Format conversion, another major capability, provides key functions to access, extract, and convert non-textual information by supporting a set of standard file formats and optical character recognition to extract text from images.

Haven OnDemand also offers developers image recognition and face detection capabilities, allowingapplications HPE Rolls Out Machine Learning as a Service on Microsoft Azure to detect specific image features and code around human-centric use cases to identify the gender of an individual, or key information such as a brand logo from within an image. It also uses neural network technology to transcribe speech to text from video or audio files in more than 50 languages, allowing applications to support speech recognition.

Developers can also use Haven OnDemand’s APIs to view patterns in business data to optimize business performance and build a set of self-learning functions that analyze, predict, and alert based on structured datasets.
