Additional YUM Repositories for CentOS, RHEL & Fedora Systems

By default CentOS, RHEL, Fedora & Scientific Linux distribution providing all the core level packages & other (Free & Non-Free) packages. Due to some restriction, set of the Open Source Software’s & Redistributable software that is not Open Source and No commercial use which was not ship with the Fedora/RHEL/CentOS distribution. Also We can’t get latest version of software (upstream releases) from distribution Base & Update repository but Still we have option to avail all the softwares from third party Yum repository such as ELRepo, IUS Community Repository, EPEL Repository, REMI Repository, Repoforg Repository, RPMforge Repository, RPMFusion Repository, Ulyaoth Repository which will help us to install those softwares easily from their repository without headache.

1) Install/Enable EPEL Repository

EPELstands for Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux Which is developed and maintained by Fedora Special Interest Group. They creates, maintains, and manages a high quality set of additional packages for Enterprise Linux such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS and Scientific Linux (SL), Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL). EPEL packages are usually based on their Fedora counterparts and will never conflict with or replace packages in the base Enterprise Linux distributions. 100% it Will work properly without any issues. It’s completely FREE. Check the link for list of package which is available in EPEL Repository . As of now the EPEL Repository supporting 6328 packages.

2) Install/Enable RPM Fushion Repository

RPM Fusion is a software repository that offers various free and non-free software’s which was not ship with the Fedora/RHEL/CentOS distribution. RPM Fusion provided as pre-compiled RPMs for all current Fedora versions (Latest 23) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 but unfortunately there is no packages for RHEL 7, i don’t know why.

Free :Open Source Software’s which was not ship with Fedora project due to other reasons.

Non-Free :Redistributable software that is not Open Source and “no commercial use”. source-code is

available for publicly to use.

3) Install/Enable REMI Repository

REMI Collect maintains latest version of MySQL and PHP (backports of fedora RPM). Make sure, if you want to enable REMI Repository, you should enable EPEL Repository because some of the REMI Repository packages depend on EPEL Repository. Check this link for REMI Repository list. As of now the REMI Repository supports 1686 packages.

4) Install/Enable Repoforg/RPMForge Repository

RepoForge is formally RPMForge. RepoForge is a collaboration of Dag and other packagers. They provide over 5000 packages for CentOS, including wine, vlc, mplayer, xmms-mp3, and other popular media tools. Packages are supplied in RPM format and in most cases are ready to use. The default RPMforge repository does not replace official CentOS base packages. More detailed instructions and recommendations are available on the CentOS wiki. You can find a complete listing of the RPMforge packages.

5) Install/Enable Nux Dextop Repository

Nux Dextop is a third-party RPM repository which contains many popular desktop and multimedia related packages such as Ardour, Shutter, SMPlayer, ffmpeg, HandBrake, etc.., for Enterprise Linux (RHEl, CentOS & Scientific Linux) 6 & 7. This repository is made to coexist with Fedora EPEL, So we should enable EPEL repository to avoid some package dependency issues. Also it will probably conflict badly with Repoforge/RPMforge possibly other repos. So, i advise you to disable the Nux Dextop repository by default whoever using the Repoforge/RPMforge and ATrpms (No more available) repos.

6) Install/Enable Ulyaoth Repository

Ulyaoth is a third-party RPM repository which contains Web Server related packages such as Hiawatha, Nginx, Monkey & Tomcat, etc.., for Enterprise Linux (RHEl, CentOS, Fedora (19-23), Oracle Linux & Scientific Linux) 6 & 7. Follow the below steps to install & enable Ulyaoth Repository to RPM systems and install the packages.

7) Install/Enable IUS Community Repository

IUS Community is a CentOS Community Approved third-party RPM repository which contains latest upstream versions of PHP, Python, MySQL, etc.., packages for Enterprise Linux (RHEL & CentOS) 5, 6 & 7. IUS Community Repository have dependency with EPEL Repository so we have to install EPEL repository prior to IUS repository installation. Follow the below steps to install & enable EPEL & IUS Community Repository to RPM systems and install the packages. You can view all the available packages from IUS Community.

8) Install/Enable ELRepo

ELRepo is a CentOS Community Approved third-party RPM repository mainly focuses on hardware related packages to enhance your experience with Enterprise Linux. This includes file system drivers, graphics drivers, network drivers, sound drivers, webcam, video drivers & latest kernel. Follow the below steps to install/enable ELRepo to RPM systems and install the packages. You can view all the available packages from ELRepo Project.
