Today we’re excited to announce the open beta ofHyperDev. HyperDev is a developer playground for building full-stack web apps. We’re combining automated deployment, instant hosting, and collaborative editing together, to create the fastest way to develop real web apps.
Our vision is to make development more accessible, easier and faster. But today, here are 5 key things that HyperDev delivers:
1. The Fastest Way to Build
In HyperDev the apps you create are instantly live, hosted by us, and are always up to date with your latest changes. As soon as you go toHyperDev a new project is created that’s already running with its own URL. As you make changes they’re automatically saved and deployed in the background. We think this makes HyperDev ideal for building products, prototyping ideas, and hacking together scripts to solve a problem.
2. The Quickest Way to Get Started
There’s no setup required. So that means there’s no dev environment setup, no build pipeline to configure, no need to memorize Git, and no manual code commits and deploys. We’ve tried to remove as many of the distractions from coding as possible so that you literally only need to write code to create a web app. This means HyperDev is especially useful for Hackathons, code tests, and live examples in your documentation on GitHub, and elsewhere.
3. A Flexible Way to Code Together
You can invite teammates and friends to your projects with just a link. So you’re able to collaborate on code together, and see changes as they’re made. Making HyperDev useful for code reviews, pair programming, and working on projects in teams.
4. An Efficient Way to Create and Learn
We’re building acommunity of developers around HyperDev who are sharing their projects that you can learn from and re-use. So you can get started quickly by remixing, or copying and editing, existingcommunity projects. Remixing makes using new frameworks and learning to code easier too – check out ourGetting Started projects for jumping off points forpersistence, connecting to databases , sending emails ,creating APIs, or trying outReact, CoffeeScript, Jade and Stylus , amongst other things.
5. An Easy Way to Get Help or Feedback
Every project gets a URL for editing and viewing. So you can share your code or your creations easily. Viewers can watch and review code as it’s being written, which is great for live coding and teaching. Or they can see the real thing running and provide you with feedback to improve and refine it.
Lots More to Come
But, this is just our beta release and there’s a lot more to come. The priorities for us are GitHub integration – we don’t want to lock you in, so we’ll be adding the ability to not only get your code into HyperDev but also easily get it out too. We’ll be adding branching, so you have a safe place to work on code away from production. We also don’t want you to have to learn anything new just to get started. So support for many languages, beyond just Node.js, is something we’re actively working towards.
Try It Out
We started on HyperDev a little over a year ago and have been testing it out with a few thousand developers over the past few months (thanks, folks!). We’re excited to share HyperDev with you and to get your feedback. So, why nottry it out? If you get stuck, here’s somehelp and please provide feedback on the forum .
In future posts, we’ll dig into the vision for the product some more and describe our approach.
