GDB Debugger Now Supports The Rust Language, Other GNU Toolchain Improvements

The GNU Toolchain has continued making improvements this year beyond just the recentGCC 6 stable compiler release.

Nick Clifton of Red Hat has sent out a mailing to share the GNU Toolchain updates made over the past two months. He covers the GCC 6 improvements with the new warning options, GDB 7.11.1 improvements, and more.

While most of these individual items were already covered on Phoronix, Nick does point out that the latest GDB debugger development code now natively supports the Rust programming language. GDB recently mainlined Rust programming language support for being able to debug those programs. GDB also recently landed some Fortran improvements.

Digging further, the Rust GDB support was mainlined last month. With that support there’s also the GDB Rust documentation .

Over in the binutils space he points out the ARM port of GAS has support for ARMv8-M, ARC and MIPS architecture improvements, and more.

You can read about the GNU Toolchain updates made recently via this mailing list post .
