GDC 2016: Unity Game Engine to Add VRWorks Support

NVIDIA’s VR momentum took another leap forward at the Game Developers Conference , held in San Francisco this week, when Unity Technologies announced that it will be adding support for NVIDIAVRWorks, including VR SLI and Multi-res Shading, to the Unity Game Engine .

Direct support in the Unity Engine means integration of VRWorks technologies will be a lot simpler for developers on that platform.

As a cross-platform game engine, developers use Unity to create 3D and 2D games and interactive experiences on many platforms.

There are already a number of VR titles are using the Unity Engine, including Cloudlands: MiniGolf VR , Hover Junkers and  Job Simulator . Beyond games, Unity Engine is also used for a wide variety of VR applications, including social, medical, tourism, design, education and training.

VRWorks is NVIDIA’s software development kit for VR game developers.  It’s a comprehensive set of APIs, libraries and features that helps headset and game developers deliver amazing VR experiences.

Multi-res Shading, a component of VRWorks, has been shown to improve performance by up to 50 percent.

NVIDIA GeForce and Quadro GPUs, along with our VRWorks technology, provide the fastest performance and lowest latency for VR experiences and are considered the reference hardware for the VR industry. Adding VRWorks to games and applications is getting a lot easier for developers on the Unity platform.
