There are a plethora of benefits that can be enjoyed by businesses that deploy cloud computing – but have you yet to cotton on to how this technology could transform your IT infrastructure?
When asked to describe unified storage, Greg Schulz, StorageIO.com founder, reeled off a list of positive attributes of the technology.
He said it is storage “that is easy to acquire, easy to deploy, easy to manage, easy to redeploy [and] easy to upgrade – meaning flexibility and adaptability, with multiple protocols, interfaces and personalities – such as block, file and object in a single solution”.
Does this sound like something that you want to be part of? If so, you may want to consider deploying this type of storage at your organisation, especially if you feel as though your present platform is out of date and unable to keep up with your current data requirements.
Unified storage can also be as efficient as dedicated object, block or file-based systems, while efficiency and availability should not be put at risk when the technology adapts to performance, Mr Schulz added.
If you are interested in the storage system, you need to decide whether or not you require one that is suitable for big bandwidth and sequential requirements, or for smaller and more random workloads.
One solution you may want to look at is EMC’s VNXe . This unified storage offering was recently deployed at AeroSpec, which noted that its storage utilisation was bolstered by 75 per cent as a result of its new thin provisioning capabilities.
In combination with VMware’s vSphere solution, an 80 per cent drop was noted for time spent on storage and server administration, while the organisation believes that a full return on investment will be seen within a year.
Do these results sound like the kind of savings your business badly requires? If so, see what EMC’s VNXe unified storage can do for you today.
