The Developer Community Gives Back

I’ve been writing developer related content for a few years now, most of which I distribute for free.  Sure I have some donation requests around this blog, but I never demand any and I try not to force it on you.  I enjoy helping the developer community, and more, I enjoy creating a healthy developer community that helps each other.

This is a short story on how the developer community that I created, heard my request for help, and offered to lend me their skills.

There are many things that I do well, primarily in the realm of development.  I know many programming languages and I’d like to think I’m good at explaining various concepts and strategies.

There are plenty of things that I do poorly, specifically in the area of creativity.  I am not a designer.  I am artistically incompetent, or in easier words, I have no artistic skills what-so-ever.  This stretches from graphic design, musical composure, or anything else that is pleasing on the eyes or ears.

Recently I put out a request on Twitter for help with a logo:

Any of my followers with design skills interested in giving back? I am in need of a logo for my blog.

After a short amount of time I received several responses from people wanting to return the favor for all the help that I’ve given them.  This is fantastic!  I made such a difference to these people that they were willing to help me out.

Jordan Jones ( @Pr0x1ma ) was the first to respond to my request.  Since my request was for some logos, here is what he had made me:

Although I don’t have a use for them yet, I’m sure I will soon.  He did a great job on them.

Conclusion

I am glad that I was able to create a healthy and positive developer community.  A community that is willing to help me out and possibly others as well.  I’m hoping that these great things continue.
